Acts of Connection Advent Calendar

With littles running around and a pandemic still looming over the holidays, we can’t wait to kick-off our second annual “Acts of Connection” advent calendar.

My entire goal with the holidays is to do all of the “dirty work” in November (while trying my best to keep things simple), so that I can soak up the magic of the holiday season in December.

These Acts of Connection are a beautiful way to stop and savor the season, let the important people in your life know how much you care, and I might add, avoid adding clutter in an already cluttered season.

Without further ado, we’ve created 24 ways that we will connect with each other, family, friends, neighbors and our community this season:

  1. Kick off December by reading a Christmas-themed story over Facetime with grandparents

  2. Pull together toy donations for Project Play which disperses to local kiddos in need (and clear some space for the inevitable)

  3. Write letters to Santa

  4. Chalk the (Side)Walk at your favorite healthcare worker’s workplace

  5. Visit Santa (don’t forget letters) at The Sullivan’s Express

  6. Play games over Zoom with far-away friends

  7. Purchase gifts for a family in need (we pull from the Angel Tree at Zionsville Presbyterian Church)

  8. Decorate a Gingerbread House + Cookies with cousins

  9. Deliver cookies to elderly and not-so-elderly neighbors

  10. Put together a little treat for your Postal Delivery Driver, Delivery Drivers and Teachers

  11. Volunteer at a food shelter (or any organization listed on the Donation Guide)

  12. Facetime with someone high up on your “Miss List“ (there are always those that we don’t get to see during this season…now is your chance to connect)

  13. Purchase a gift for your local children’s hospital (check out Riley Children’s Hospital Amazon Wishlist here)

  14. Create a Spotify Playlist to gift to friends (here’s Hen + Lu’s Thankful for You Mix from 2020)

  15. Pick a Christmas craft to make with Miss Audrey (our heaven-sent angel of a Nanny)

  16. Sing carols around the neighborhood

  17. Pull together art supplies for Mars Hill Arts Center

  18. Find 5 books + take a winter walk to put them in a Little Free Library

  19. Make hot chocolate, put on some Christmas jammies + drive around neighborhoods to look at lights

  20. Smile at someone in need (it can do more than you may ever know)

  21. Snuggle up for a Christmas Movie

  22. Experience Winterlights with cousins (and make sure to visit the Lilly House to see Color Story Studio’s amazing work)

  23. Hen + Lu’s Candlelit Dinner (Call me crazy, but we decided to create a holiday tradition last year where we cook up a fancy dinner, likely mac-n-cheese, for the kiddos and serve them…I think this will only get more fun as the years go on)

  24. Celebrate “Appy Christmas” with Family (our annual Christmas Eve tradition is to join with family and whip up our best appetizers from the year)

And if you don’t have an advent calendar already, consider using dry erase markers or post-its notes to craft one on a window! How easy is that?

What’s missing from this list? How will YOU be connecting with others this season??
