PROJECT // Nursery to Kids Study Conversion

I'm SO excited to unveil this space to you as this was quite the transformation! The evolution of this room has been pretty interesting - initially it was a storage closet when my client's purchased their home. About five years ago they converted it into a nursery, but their boys are now sharing a room down the hall.

So, it was time to transform this space into a little nook perfect for studying, crafting and building some pretty incredible Lego creations. I think we have a couple of future engineers on our hands with some of the designs I saw!

Here is a glimpse at the nursery in its finished state. By the time I was brought in, the home owner had sold the furniture and the room was a blank canvas just waiting to be transformed.

"As a busy mom of three, taking on a room renovation with an already packed schedule could seem overwhelming.  Working with Maria at The Baer Minimalist made this project fun, easy and stress free.  Maria helped source many of the items, took measurements to make sure things were just right, was a sounding board for talking through decisions and finally, her favorite - helping to organize the 1,001 crayons, crafts, games and toys."

Our ultimate goal for the space was to create something that flowed with the rest of their home, but had a touch of whimsy. We wanted to keep things budget friendly, and also have a home for all of the legos, crafts and board games that were housed in just about every room of the house.

Our first order of business was finding a fun statement piece to incorporate into the room (which would also provide us with some guidance for all of the furniture/lighting decisions that would need to be made). Cue the most adorable wallpaper from Hygge & West.

Once we had narrowed in on the wallpaper and paint, we visited IKEA to design a desk area for three and storage to house all of their goodies. The Besta solution is incredibly versatile and really had endless options for us to work with in terms of modifing the design to fit our space and serve as a home to a random assortment of toys, books, games and legos.

The biggest takeaway from this job was learning that you can pay a little bit extra and IKEA will not only shop for your items after you place an online order, but also deliver and assemble for you. #lifechanging

I'll be honest, I've shied away from IKEA furniture in the past because I always seemed to be left with a random assortment of screws and bolts at the end of a project. And there was generally a bit (okay, a lot a bit) of frustration if I was trying to put a piece together with my hubs and no one needs that in their life.

So, for just $59 (and up) for the shopping/picking and delivery, and $89 (and up) for the assembly fee, this was a no-brainer.

"I would highly recommend Maria to anyone needing an extra hand in transforming a space, or organizing a current space.  I’m in LOVE with our new playroom…and best of all, my kids are too!"

Having the chance to help design this room alongside my wonderful client was such a joy. This project came together in such a neat way and I've loved seeing photos of her kiddos embracing their new space.

Now that everthing has a place, her kids have enjoyed keeping those legos sorted, their little desks neat and tidy and their toy trucks parked in their designated "Parking Zone".
